WhatsApp default theme feature spotted in development on latest beta version

Date:

WhatsApp is working on a feature that will allow users to set a default theme by changing the colour of chat bubbles on the app on their smartphones. The new personalisation option may offer a selection of colour presets, and it was spotted in development by a feature tracker on a recent beta version of the app for iPhone. The Meta-owned messaging app recently updated the colour scheme of its app for iOS users, adopting green accents for various elements such as buttons and notification counters.

Default chat theme feature spotted on WhatsApp

On the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.11.10.70, which is being released to users through Apple’s TestFlight testing program, features tracker WABetaInfo has spotted a new feature. Default chat theme This is a feature that is currently in the development stage. This means that the feature cannot be enabled right now, but beta testers can try it out later.

WhatsApp default chat theme feature: How it works

According to a screenshot shared by the feature tracker, WhatsApp is working on a new chat theme picker in the app, which will be located in the Settings menu. Users can choose from five options – the default green theme, as well as blue, grey, red, and purple.

The leaked image also contains a piece of text that informs the user that choosing one of the chat themes will set the colour and wallpaper for the chat on their phone – with the corresponding themed WhatsApp doodle background.

Unlike Instagram, setting a chat theme will only apply to that phone. This means that Default chat theme This setting will not modify the theme in the chat for both users — unlike Instagram, which allows users to theme conversations on a per-chat basis.

This new chat theme picker is expected to be rolled out to beta testers on iOS in the future before it hits the stable channel. Since most of the features are shared on WhatsApp for iOS and Android, we can expect this feature to arrive on the Android version of the app as well in the future.
