We’ve tested the 9 best TV streaming devices for 4K and HD

You probably stream Most, if not all, of your content. A good streaming device makes that process easier. If you recently bought a new TV, it probably has its own streaming interface. Some of these are fine, but a stand-alone streaming device can provide a better experience. We’ve tried them all — from Roku, Apple, Google, Amazon, and even a cheap Walmart-owned brand — so you don’t have to, and we’ve separated each of our favorites based on where they perform best.

To test a streaming device, I note how easy or complicated the setup was, from the first plug-in to signing into all of our favorite streaming services, and then I watch TV! I typically stream plenty of content even when I’m not testing a new device, but for at least a week, I watch movies, TV shows, and YouTube videos for a few hours each day, install and delete apps, and play with any extra features inside the device or on the remote.

Be sure to check out all of our guides, particularly the best Roku devices and best streaming services, as well as the best TVs, best soundbars, and best smart speakers.

Updated in June 2024: We’ve added Walmart’s latest 4K Pro On device and Roku’s Plus Series TVs. We’ve also updated prices and links.
