If reading this has helped you adjust your shoulders, it’s time to work on your posture, because poor posture not only causes temporary pain and stiffness, but it can permanently affect the health of our backs.

After looking at a lot of photos of myself in which I was slouching horribly – my shoulders were completely hunched over, my stomach was somehow jutting forward while my hips were tilted backward – I wondered why anyone ever willingly talked to me in public. Good posture doesn’t come naturally to me, so I decided to do something about it.

These are the best posture correctors we’ve tried. None of these options can fix your problems overnight, and while they may be uncomfortable at first, they should be painless. Start by using them for 10 to 20 minutes a day, and increase the time as you go (and listen to the product instructions). If you have severe back pain, hunchback or scoliosis, talk to your doctor before trying any posture corrector.

Our research and testing

I’ve been testing posture correctors since 2020, including gadgets and gizmos that vibrate when you slouch, full back braces with lumbar support, and shoulder straps. Whatever the product, I use it every day for at least two weeks, following the instructions closely – you should usually start with just 10 minutes a day.

After looking at gadgets designed to remind you to sit up straight and braces to keep the wearer in the correct position, I think it’s clear that the first option is better. You don’t want to make matters worse by relying on something that’s actually weakening your muscles instead of helping you learn new habits. That doesn’t mean braces are never an option, and we have some more information on how to use them below. But consider trying the Upright Go first, and if you work at a desk, create a proper ergonomic setup.
