Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra likely to get two camera sensor upgrades

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to be the flagship smartphone of the Galaxy S25 series when it arrives. Although the smartphone is still some time away from launch, new leaks have been revealing small details about it. Now, a new leak claims that the Ultra variant may feature two new sensors that will improve the capabilities of the ultra-wide-angle and telephoto cameras. Meanwhile, a previous report claimed that the upcoming handset may feature a 200-megapixel primary camera just like its previous model.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra reportedly to get new camera sensor

According to a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) by tipster Sperandio4Tech, the ultra-wide-angle and telephoto sensors on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra could get an upgrade. The tipster claims that the current ultra-wide-angle sensor on the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be replaced with a “new version of the 1/2.76-inch JN1 sensor.” This new sensor is said to be smaller than its predecessor. Additionally, the poster claims that the resolution of the sensor could be increased to 50-megapixels instead of the current 12-megapixels. The new sensor was not named.

Talking about other upgrades, the telephoto lens may also get a new “1/3-inch Isocell sensor” which may be slightly larger than the current one. The tipster claimed that its resolution will also be upgraded to 50-megapixels instead of the previous 10-megapixels. The optical zoom capability is said to remain at 3x. Apart from this, he also claimed that new algorithms are being developed for the smartphone, although he did not share any details about what these algorithms will do.

Earlier this week, a report claimed that the Galaxy S25 Ultra could continue to feature a quad rear camera setup, with the primary likely to remain the same 200-megapixel sensor. It is not known if the periscope lens with 5x optical zoom will get any upgrade.

The same report also states that the primary rear camera of the Samsung Galaxy S25 could be a 50-megapixel sensor, just like the current model. If this is true, this will be the fourth generation of the smartphone to get the same resolution sensor.
