Elden Ring: Shadows of the Aardtree is now the highest-rated expansion ever on Metacritic

Elden Ring: Shadows of the Erdtree is set to arrive on June 21, but reviews for the expansion are already in. As predicted, the DLC has received widespread praise, just like the base game. In fact, according to its Metacritic score, Shadows of the Erdtree has become the highest-rated DLC ever released. The PS5 version of the Elden Ring expansion currently has a score of 95 on the review aggregator website, making it one of the best-rated games ever.

Elden Ring: Shadows of the Aardtree Metacritic Score

Elden Ring: Shadows of the Aardtree is FromSoftware’s largest and most ambitious expansion to date, featuring a new world map, new story, boss fights, weapon classes, spells, and more, adding dozens of hours of content over the base game.

Reviews for the upcoming expansion, which will release on June 21 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X, have already come in, and the scores are high all around. With a 95 Metacritic score, based on 56 critic reviews at the time of writing, Elden Ring: Shadows of the Aardtree is the highest-rated expansion to date. As spotted by VGC, the score puts the expansion in 36th place on Metacritic’s overall list of the highest-rated games of all time. The DLC is just one point behind the base game; Elden Ring’s Metacritic score is 96 based on 93 critic reviews.

When it comes to expansions, Shadows of the Aardtree is now at the top of the list. Before the Elden Ring expansion, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Blood and Wine was the highest-rated DLC on Metacritic with a score of 92. Keep in mind that the review score may change as more reviews for the expansion come in.

Sale of Elden Ring

Last week, developer FromSoftware confirmed that Elden Ring has sold 25 million copies worldwide. The action-RPG, which will be released in 2022, is FromSoftware’s best-selling title, far ahead of the developer’s other popular games like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Dark Souls III, which have both sold over 10 million units.

Elden Ring: Shadows of the Erdtree requires the base game to be playable. It will focus on the story of Malenia’s brother Mikaela, and take place in the Realm of Shadows, an all-new region in the Elden Ring world. The expansion also introduces a new dangerous antagonist, Mesmer the Impaler. Shadows of the Erdtree will be released on June 21 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X.
