Don’t place your Amazon Echo speaker in these 5 risky locations

When was the last time you thought about the location of your Amazon Echo speaker? You may not think much about where you keep your Alexa smart speakers and smart displays, but there are some locations that can cause major problems.

You probably know that it’s not safe to keep your Alexa device near water, but did you know that intruders could access your device? 1. Keep Alexa away from your toilet

Keeping the Echo near your toilet is just disgusting. Think about how many germs live in that place — even in the cleanest bathrooms. If you have to do that, Place an Echo device in your bathroom (and we can see the appeal of that), try to keep it as far away from the toilet as possible.

If you can, put it on the wall Secure it in place with a sticky strip or tack. Just make sure it’s secure so it doesn’t fall off, and remember to keep it near an outlet so you can plug it in. Also, keep it away from the bathtub. You don’t want to fry your Echo… or anything else.

2. Avoid placing Alexa near the sink

If you want to muffle Alexa’s voice, keep your expensive Echo near a sink. If you want to keep it safe, never keep it near water.

You don’t want to risk your kitchen water sprayer breaking and soaking your Echo device or dropping a tall device into the sink. Instead, place it on a different counter, like a kitchen island, or put it in a corner where it’s away from spaghetti sauce and splashes of water. It’ll stay cleaner and probably sound better, too.

3. Don’t place Alexa near your windows

Keep your Echo away from all windows in your home. Doing so could allow someone from outside to access your Echo and also give them access to your other smart home devices. For example, if your car is connected to your smart speaker, someone could access your Echo. Unlock and start it up,

If your Echo is near a window, move it away.

4. Alexa shouldn’t go under your TV

How many ads are there that say, “Alexa, play…” and Activate your EchoOr if you hear something on the TV that sounds like “Alexa,” guess what’s about to activate.

Not only does it interrupt the show you are watching, but it also starts recording whatever is said after the command. So if you are having a private conversation and Alexa turns on, you can’t hear anything. Putting your privacy at riskIt makes more sense to keep it on a side table and the voice assistant is more likely to stay quiet until you give a command.

5. Never place your Echo in front of a space heater

You should never expose your Amazon Echo to any heat source, Amazon saysThis includes space heaters, heater vents, radiators, and stoves. Doing so could potentially cause a fire or damage your Echo device.

Instead, make sure it is placed clearly away from the direction of the heater to avoid a potential disaster. For example, if you keep a space heater in your office, place the Echo on your desk and away from the heater.
